Background

I am a dietitian nutritionist with close to twenty years of experience in health and wellness. I hold a master’s degree in nutrition from Virginia Tech and a bachelor’s degree in holistic nutrition. I am a certified health and well-being coach (Wellcoaches) and a 200-hour certified yoga instructor. My experience ranges from long-term care and dialysis to corporate wellness, private practice, and teaching at a collegiate level. I love all areas of nutrition, but I am particularly interested in weight management, healthy aging, menopause management, inflammation, and gut health.

My nutrition philosophy is based on the belief that restoring balance is the key to improving health and well-being. I enjoy the challenge of working with clients from different demographics, but I am particularly passionate about working with women. Women of all ages have a lot on their plates; they juggle families and careers while trying to find the time for self-care. Once we enter the menopausal transition age, finding balance becomes even more challenging. Women begin to struggle with weight gain, aches and pains, insomnia, mood swings and more. Women of this age commonly feel misunderstood by the medical establishment. They often report getting treatments for multitude of symptoms, while never finding a long-lasting relief.

My main goal is to normalize my clients’ experiences and offer a compassionate and safe space. I help them uncover the root cause of their concerns and together we design a plan with which they are comfortable. I do not believe in restrictive diets and calorie counting. I encourage my clients to instead focus on the quality of their nutrition. We explore the best ways to eat and move that fit their preferences, lifestyle, and their unique needs. I help them find the balance in their lives by creating healthy routines while leaving space for fun and joy.

My counseling approach is based on coaching methodology rooted in positive psychology and motivational interviewing. I strive to meet the client where they are while providing guidance and support through all the stages of change. My clients are experts in their own health and their life, and I respect their need for autonomy and competence. I encourage my clients to acknowledge their strengths and imagine the possibilities rather than dwelling on weaknesses and problems. In doing so, we together chart a vision that fuels motivation for change. My strong counseling skills allow me to connect with my clients on a deep level with compassion and empathy. I have an excellent rapport with all my clients, and I enjoy getting to know them. In turn, I earn their trust and their respect, which is the basis of any good relationship.

I am a mother and a wife. I love spending time with my family by the lake during the summer months, hiking in the autumn, and snuggling by the fire in the cold months. I enjoy traveling, reading, yoga and all movement. More than anything else, I enjoy being of service to others.
