Hi, I’m Alexa! I’m a Registered Dietitian based out of Asheville, NC. I realized I wanted to become a dietitian after I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and had to radically change my own diet to support my health. That was over 11 years ago now.
Since then, I’ve completed two degrees, a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) and a Master of Public Health in Nutrition and Dietetics from UNC Chapel Hill.
My true passion, and why I got into nutrition and dietetics is supporting those needing a gluten-free diet. Living with a dietary restriction, such as a gluten-free diet for Celiac Disease or non-Celiac gluten-sensitivity is so challenging, and can take a toll mentally as well. I combine my lived experience with my professional education to support folks in understanding their gluten-free needs, understanding their new diagnosis and how to move forward living their best life while also managing a chronic condition. I believe with the right knowledge, and support system, living gluten-free doesn’t have to hold you back.
Aside from gluten-free nutrition, I have extensive experience on dietary management of chronic heart failure, and renal diseases through my working experience as a hospital dietitian.
I also like to mention that I do consider myself a non-diet dietitian. Seems funny seeing as I promote a dietary pattern. But what I mean by this is that I don’t promote intentional weight loss. If you are wanting a weight loss dietitian, I am likely not the right fit. In my work with clients we focus on behavior change. I believe that working on the behavior and not so much the outcome leads to better long-term, sustainable change.
Outside of work I love to dance, take fitness classes, explore Western North Carolina, watch Buckeye Football, and so much more. I’m excited to be able to do this work and support some wonderful humans on their health journey.
