Hello! My name is Alicia and I am a registered dietitian nutritionist with over 6 years of experience in client/patient care. I went to the University of Michigan undergrad (Go Blue!), where my sophomore year anthrobio class ‘nutrition and evolution’ left me captivated by the science of nutrition. I then went on to complete my Masters in Public Health from NYU before becoming a licensed Registered Dietitian.
I have had a wide range of clinical experience, starting with my inpatient experience at Mount Sinai West Hospital. I then went on to work in the outpatient setting with kidney transplant patients at the Recanati/Miller Transplant Institute at Mount Sinai. Through both of these experiences, I have had the opportunity to see it all– from patients with diabetes, hypertension, congestive heart failure, and kidney disease to patients struggling with weight loss, weight gain, IBS/IBD, liver disease, and more.
Which brings me to my next chapter– helping YOU! In working with many sick patients in the clinical setting, a common wish that was often expressed was “I wish I had you sooner! To prevent myself from being here!”. Preventative nutrition is really where my passion began over 12 years ago, and where this career has ultimately led me. We have the power, through what we consume, to prevent, delay, and reduce the impact of chronic diseases. How amazing is that! I have witnessed the emotional, physical, and financial toll of chronic illness, and I know the undeniable power of prevention. But, let’s face it…food is complicated, especially when trying to eat for your future health. Food can be nutritious and delicious, but it can also be scary, intimidating, and downright confusing. At its best, food is social and cultural and it brings us together. And at its worst, food can be frightening and, dare I say, shame inducing??
But that is where I come in to play. I want to help you sift through the noise (and it can be oh so noisy out there). I get it and I have been there myself…there are so many conflicting articles and documentaries and research studies when it comes to nutrition and how to eat “healthy”. We are also social beings who want to enjoy life. We want the pants to fit but we also want to eat the pizza and pasta! It’s about the food, but it’s also about everything else.. So here I am. I want to declutter it for you and help you to achieve your health goals. I will work with you to adopt a nutrition plan that is rooted in evidenced based research, that is sustainable, enjoyable, and realistic. I will simplify nutrition and have you on your way to leading your best (+healthiest) life.
