Background

My interest in food and wellness began when I was a young teenager. I used food and fitness as a means to an end—to achieve the “perfect” body. What I truly wanted was to be free from the compulsion to eat or drink alcohol as a form of relief. I wanted to be able to trust my body instead of feeling at war with it.

I pursued a career as a registered dietitian- believing more education was power. It started off with books, lectures, and memorizing complicated formulas in chemistry. While I had obtained so much knowledge in dietetics and completed a graduate program, I still struggled with my own relationship to food and my body.

I worked in a diabetes clinic for years helping underserved populations in Harlem, New York. I became burnt out and decided to leave the city. I began hiking on the Appalachian trail. For years I lived out of a backpack and journeyed around the world, mostly by foot, experiencing different cultures. I studied Eastern medicine, yoga and meditation, art, and language. During this time I questioned what I believed to be true and finally reached a point of peace and clarity that felt like permanence.

It was only after I healed my relationship to my body and self that I felt I could truly help others reach a similar place of clarity. For the past 3 years I have worked with clients providing nutrition counseling. I specialize in weight management, hormone imbalance, and diabetes care. My counseling methods utilize intuitive eating principles, mindfulness/somatic practices, and sound nutrition based evidence. I would love to help guide you in your journey however big or small your goal is!

Approach

"My work in nutrition/wellness has led me to work in various settings. From an HIV clinic in Harlem, NY with underserved populations to conducting creative writing workshops and breath exercises to hippie vagabonds in the foothills of India. I practice many different modalities; am a trained Yoga/Mediation Specialist, Certified Diabetes Educator, and speak Spanish fluently. I want all my clients to enjoy food, reach their goals, and ultimately be able to trust their bodies as a guide! =D"
