Hi! My name is Avery and I am excited to work with you on your journey towards a healthy relationship with food. In our initial sessions, I like to get an extensive history from you and learn what your specific goals are for outpatient treatment. As we progress and get to know each other better, we’ll work on meal planning, body image, food exposures, preparation for social situations, nutrition education, and more, depending on what your needs and goals are. We can also include books, workbooks, journal prompts, and/or other assignments into your treatment plan. I am committed to providing an individualized experience for each client!
My main focuses as a dietitian are eating disorders, disordered eating patterns, and intuitive eating. I have extensive experience with all types of eating disorders, including ARFID, which can be hard to find treatment for! If you are looking to improve your relationship with food, whether or not you have a diagnosed eating disorder, then we will be a great fit.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics with minors in Chemistry and Nutritional Science from Brigham Young University. I have 4 years of experience at an inpatient treatment center for severe eating disorders, having worked there as a dietary technician, behavioral health technician, and registered dietitian. I also work as an inpatient clinical dietitian at a major children’s hospital, treating infants, children, and teenagers in the critical care, trauma, medical, surgical, oncology, and cardiac units.
In my free time, I love reading, snowboarding, rock climbing, and playing with my cat (who happens to be a very intuitive eater, by the way). I’m constantly on the hunt for new books to read and fresh powder to ride!
Treating eating disorders and fighting against diet culture have become my greatest passions. Unfortunately, as I’ve had clients discharge from the inpatient setting to outpatient treatment, I’ve noticed that the number of outpatient dietitians who truly specialize in eating disorders and disordered eating is lacking. As I continue my inpatient work, I’m excited to also grow my outpatient practice and help more people get access to anti-diet, weight inclusive treatment.
