Hi there! I’m Ben, and I can’t wait to be your biggest supporter.
Sessions with me will always start with you. It is important to me that you get what you are looking for out of the time we spend together.
One thing to know about teaming up with me... I will always focus on your relationship with food. Don’t get me wrong, I think understanding the science behind our food is very important. I studied nutrition science for 6 years after all! But knowledge alone won't help you live a happier and healthier life if your relationship with food is suffering.
We'll often start with building on your knowledge of the different food groups and growing your confidence in building healthy plates that fit your tastes. We may also spend time learning how to read food labels or equipping you with supermarket skills that will have you shopping like a dietitian (and maybe even saving some money on your grocery bills)!
I call steps like these our “TTPCs”, our “Tools to Positive Change”. Once you’re armed with these tools, you'll be ready to build your way to your healthy lifestyle goals. Think of yourself as the designer and me as the architect. Your motivations guide the goals we'll set, and my clinical training and nutrition knowledge will piece together achievable goals for you to reach. Let’s start building!
I love to empower all types of clients to reach their nutrition goals, but my greatest passion is partnering with clients looking to prevent or better manage chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
So, if you find out that you are pre-diabetic, or you are concerned that being overweight or underweight may lead you to health problems, I’d love to work with you! Or perhaps you’re struggling with your heart disease or diabetes and you’re looking to turn the corner through positive lifestyle changes. It would be my pleasure to take on those challenges with you!
More about Me:
Credentials: I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with a Master's Degree in Nutrition Science.
At each stop in my dietitian career, I’ve had coworkers and patients alike tell me the same thing… “Ben, you really ought to be a counselor. You listen so well, and leave everyone around you feeling heard and supported”. I’m so grateful for their heartfelt support. It’s been a dream come true bringing my listening ear and nutrition expertise to people like you!
I have 3 years of experience working as a Registered Dietitian and Dietetic Intern all across North Carolina, providing expert nutrition care in hospitals and WIC Departments. I even spent a year as the "Dietitian Program Coordinator" for 23 public schools in Eastern North Carolina where I grew a deep understanding of the nutritional barriers facing our children and learned strategies to overcome them.
I also have 4 years of experience as a researcher, public health educator, and wellness coach, creating educational videos, coaching participants through cooking and workout classes, and hosting educational livestreams, among other experiences.
A little more about me… I recently got married and am enjoying matrimony with my wonderful wife, Rachel. I also love the outdoors! I enjoy spending my free time out on a trail somewhere or throwing a frisbee with some friends. And like many others, Pickleball got a hold of me and it hasn't let go yet! So there's a good chance you'll find me on a pickleball court whenever I'm not helping people reach their nutrition goals.
I also love food, of course, and I’m always trying to find new and creative ways to make healthy food taste good! I’m just a little obsessed with seasonings and their incredible ability to transform the most bitter vegetables into delectable dishes. Don’t even get me started on smoked paprika! I find it so rewarding to share these tips and recipes with you. Who knows, you may find your new favorite dish comes courtesy of “Ben the Dietitian”!
My love for nutrition stems back to my childhood. My sweet grandmother suffered a heart attack at only 67 years old. I watched firsthand as the power of nutrition and healthy lifestyle changes restored her quality of life and protected her from suffering another cardiovascular incident. Now at the age of 87, she’s still going strong, enjoying her garage sales and game nights without concern!
I chose to study nutrition because of her story, and nutrition has had my heart ever since. I’ve witnessed nutrition transform the lives of so many people, and it makes my heart happy to empower others to live their happiest and healthiest lives.
I'm ready to meet you where you are physically, emotionally, and of course, nutritionally. I look forward to walking the path to wellness right by your side!
