Background

Hello! I am Danni Gheleva and I have been a nutrition professional for over 25 years. I meet clients where they are at and use my experience, skills, and deep knowledge of nutrient metabolism, human physiology, and medical nutrition therapy to help you reach a place of contentment with your nutrition status, your body, and your well-being.

My expertise is in cardiometabolic diseases (high cholesterol, high blood pressure, pre- and type 2 diabetes), weight management, and women’s health through the lifecycle (nutrition to support fertility, pregnancy, postpartum nutrition, and menopause). I am passionate about helping adults (and their families) prevent chronic diseases, improve energy and fuel physical performance, gain or better their skills in meal planning, food preparation, plant-based eating, as well as integrate movement and improve sleep.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics from Texas Christian University and hold a Doctorate (PhD) in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. I have taught nutrition at the college level for 18 years, training future dietitians, and other healthcare professionals. I have worked as a nutrition scientist with a major food company, have led experiential learning experiences in Mediterranean food culture in Italy and Spain, and founded the first college-based Teaching (Community) Kitchen in Washington state. As an immigrant and an avid traveler, I offer a diverse perspective and appreciation of a variety of human experiences and food cultures. I am also the owner of Kaleidoscope Nutrition, where I work alongside adults as a nutrition coach and therapist to help them discover their best health.

My work is highly personalized and practical. My approach is grounded in my expertise in human nutrition and relies on science and evidence-based recommendations, and also on lived experience and intuition. In addition, my work is based on the principles of functional and integrative nutrition. What this means is that I take a holistic approach that considers multiple aspects of your life beyond what you eat that might affect your well-being and health, including parts of your medical and family history, eating patterns, as well as lifestyle factors that could affect your food choices, such as your stage of life, activity level, sleep, stress, environmental exposures, and the presence or absence of chronic disease. And I also aim to uncover and address the root causes of your health concerns or challenges.

I am thorough, curious, authentic, and detail oriented. I believe food is medicine and I am passionate about helping you experience the power of food to heal and transform. In your work with me you can expect help with making sustainable long-term eating and lifestyle changes through support, accountability, and education. I am not interested in promoting a narrow definition of health, or trendy diet plans that capitalize on the thrill of newness, and I am not focused on thinness and appearance.

On a personal note, I am a nature lover, bike commuter, and an adventurous budget traveler. I love to walk – from urban walks, to hiking and backpacking, to snowshoeing and long-distance trekking. My weekly movement usually includes yoga and lap swimming. As a single working parent of 2, I live the challenge of limited time and unlimited to-dos. And I also know that there is a way to have you (and your family) eat and live healthfully.

I can’t wait to meet you.
