My name is Eve Guenther and I am a registered dietitian with a Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics and you could describe me as the 'anti-dietitian' meaning, you won’t hear much of the word 'diet' from me. Instead, you’ll certainly get an informational and often humorous approach to the world of nutrition filled with unique and easy to understand analogies and real-world examples. You may see me whipping out plate or food models, utilizing handouts packed with useful information, or comparing our bodies to furnaces or cell phones. However, or whatever it takes to get the point across to my clients, I am not afraid to get creative!
I work with my clients towards the concept of intuitive eating with the idea that 'all foods fit' into a healthy lifestyle. I use a patient-centered approach meaning I tailor my appointments to meet the needs of my patients and where they are in their nutritional journey.
While we aim for intuitive eating, we start small and build our way up. And sometimes, for certain health conditions we may have to eliminate certain foods to improve our quality of life. As someone with food allergies, this was something I personally struggled with. As a child I avoided so many foods due to my allergies and it took years to understand what I could and could not eat because I did not have guidance. A dietitian could have helped my mother and I through those early years of my food allergies and provided us with clear instructions and put our minds at ease. As I got older, these food allergies excluded me from social gatherings and events because others around me did not know how to handle my allergies. As a dietitian, I aim to help individuals not to feel isolated like I did as a child and to know they are not alone in whatever nutritional condition they may be struggling with, whether it be food allergies, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, etc.
When I’m not being a dietitian, you’ll find me snuggling with my cat, Toast, on the couch, working on needlepoint listening to vinyl records or radio.
So, I welcome you to pull up a chair and let’s have a chat!
