I'm Jennifer Hertig, and I've been a Registered Dietitian since 2009. My focus and career has been in Long-term and Short-term care. This path has allowed me to experience many different types of people and backgrounds and utilize my knowledge in Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). I'm experienced in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, cancer, palliative care, renal disease (including dialysis), cerebral vascular disease, bariatrics (pre and post surgery) as well as alternate routes of nutrition and hydration (such as tube feedings). I want to be able to reach more people to help improve and attain nutritional goals and create a sense of empowerment to make the changes for the better. A little about myself...I started out with a path towards fashion merchandise management, having worked in retail and management, it felt like the right fit. After a few months at FIT, I realized this wasn't in my heart and I didn't have a true passion for it. I always enjoyed exercise, and reading about nutrition, and with a suggestion by my mom, I decided to look into a degree in nutrition and never looked back! I knew I wanted to do something that can better other people's lives, no matter how small or big. Maintaining your health is so important, and however I can help someone to get closer to that goal reminds me of why I got into this field. I've always tried to stay active, with my favorite activities being cycling/spin, yoga (hot included!) Pilates, as well as throwing in some HIIT and weights. I like to mix it up so I don't get bored! I also love working out with friends, it keeps you motivated! Currently, my son keeps me busy and I try to stay active when I can (dog walks count!) and sneaking in exercise when I can. I also love having my son help me in the kitchen with preparing meals, baking, anything that teaches him to appreciate different foods. Since having my son, I've had an even stronger drive to ensure myself and my family stay healthy and choose foods that can help us achieve and sustain our health and well-being. I believe balance is key and giving yourself grace when needed. No one is perfect and no one person eats perfectly all the time!
