Background

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) with a Master of Public Health degree, and I have worked with adults of all ages for nutrition counseling and education. My clinical background includes over a decade helping clients facing various medical nutrition therapy needs, including cardiovascular disease, pre-hypertension or hypertension, high cholesterol, kidney disease, diabetes or pre-diabetes, liver disease, gastrointestinal disorders, food allergies or intolerances, swallowing disorders, and both weight loss and weight gain goals. I am a Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition, so I understand specific nutrition needs for healthy aging.

While I love to talk about food and how eating can be a more positive experience for your health, I also am here to help you look at the bigger picture of what impacts your nutrition. Adequate sleep, stress management and physical activity are some of the areas we can also explore and how they work with food to support health.

Motivational interviewing is a common approach I use to explore the pathways to overcoming challenges and finding solutions that will work for you. I rely on my clients to tell me what will help them. For some, that means they want help with healthy meal planning, adopting a plant-based diet, or meeting specific vitamin/mineral needs. Mindful eating practices or a non-diet approach are often a great starting place if you are looking to break away from yo-yo dieting and fad diet culture.

In my free time I enjoy being active in both challenging and relaxing ways, like hiking and yoga. I have a passion for cooking, especially finding ways to use produce from my garden. With a busy life, keeping myself nourished physically and mentally, also means being realistic with myself. It might be an exercise-free day or a frozen bean burrito when there is no time to cook. Health and nutrition are about balance, not perfection.

I started a private practice to help people cut through the noise of nutrition misinformation, conflicting health advice, and diet culture nonsense. While a common saying is "you are what you eat" in reality who we are is more than just what we eat. What we eat is also more than just a list of nutrition facts or labeling "good foods" vs "bad foods." What and how we eat is an integral part of our daily lives, connected to our family, friendships, and culture. Eating should contribute to both our happiness and well-being. I am here to guide you on your food journey towards a more purposeful, balanced, and healthful life.
