The oppression of chasing the “perfect” diet and the “ideal” thin body is not new in the Asian community. In my personal experience, my mom once put me on a “special diet” because I look chubbier than kids the same age. My friends and I used to compare our bodies to those top models on the cover of magazines. Although I become a health professional specializing in food and wellness, it still took me years to unlearn the diet culture mentality. Nowadays, as a HAES-informed practitioner, I see that health and good nutrition are not one-size-fits-all. Yet, it’s highly personalized and tightly connected to our cultural and family upbringings. And this is what drives my practice - in a non-diet, weight-inclusive environment, I will partner with you to practice the mind-body-plate connection. I will help you find peace with food.
