My name is Kiersten Haugerud, and I’m a Registered Dietitian and fitness enthusiast. My health journey really dates back to when I was in high school, always trying to find a way to fit in by controlling my weight. I always wondered if there was a better way, because I knew the way I was “dieting” wasn’t sustainable. A friend introduced me to weight lifting in 2014 and I have been hooked ever since. When I went to college, I knew I wanted to study science and I was always intrigued by the human body. I began college with the broad degree of biology and an art minor (art is therapy!). I finished my generals at UW-Barron County and it was time to transfer to a 4 year school…what was I going to do?! I explored multiple degrees, but kept reading about dietetics and decided to give it a shot. The UW-Stout Dietetics program it was, so I transferred and began classes. Early in the program I absolutely fell in love with dietetics. My course work included classes on metabolism, advanced nutrition, and food science. I knew it was my calling, so I went on to receive my Masters of Science degree in Human Nutritional Science from UW-Stout.
My experience includes outpatient/inpatient care as well as experience working in dialysis for 2 years. I’ve been practicing as a registered dietitian for 7 years and I’m still learning every day. I never saw myself as having my own practice, but I found myself spending so much of my free time researching the metabolism for “fun”. That brought me to the realization that this nutrition career is no longer my job, it is my passion. The more I learn, the more people I can help. This day in age, being unhealthy is becoming our new culture, my goal is to make being healthy our new normal. I want to impact the world (even if I only make a small impression, an impression it will be).
My stance on health is that everyone truly has the capability to heal themselves without turning to conventional medicine or weight loss injections. The secret lies within you and your choices, with me to give you the foundational knowledge to accomplish it.
