Hi! My name is Kristin. I am a Registered Dietitian with a master's degree in dietetics from the University of Kansas Medical Center. I also obtained the Dietetics in Integrative Medicine graduate certificate from KUMed, which sprung from a deep passion to help people through a holistic, functional, and natural perspective. I have counseled children and families in individual and group settings at Children's Mercy Hospital through a weight loss study which supported overall healthy lifestyles. More recently I have worked in geriatric rehabilitation to optimize nutrition status within recovery, and in private practice with adults in one-on-one personalized nutrition therapy.
Food is truly medicine when utilized intentionally- and it is some of the best medicine available since it plays such a key role in managing inflammation, the root of all disease. This is something I intuited, though solidified later in grad school, as a 14-year-old when my younger brother started eating only chimichangas from Walmart and other processed/fast foods. I knew one day he would need my help, and as I saw his patterns reflected in many of the other people around me, I knew this was one way I could aid in solving a major problem in our country. That is why I became a dietitian. We are all the walking wounded- I myself have PCOS, for example. My most meaningful work so far has been with my private practice clients helping them to achieve lower stress and inflammation to heal unique medical conditions and increase overall wellness through nutrition and integrative therapy.
Besides nutrition, I love my English husband who moved to KC for us to be together, traveling with him and other family or friends, decorating our home with trips to Home Goods, playing violin in our community orchestra, and the idea of baths.
My focus areas right now are on weight management, anti-inflammation, and personalized nutrition through integrative and functional therapies. What clients can expect to take away from our time together is a greater sense of personal confidence in how to eat well for your unique body and life. I like to teach clients so that by the end of our work they can feel good about continuing without the sessions. You can expect me to listen well, be patient, non-judgmental, cheer you on, and to have some laughs along the way.
