Background

Hola, my name is Maria and I am a passionate Registered Dietitian. From a young age, my mom knew my future would involve nutrition somehow. When I was young, maybe~7-8 y.o., my mom would take us to McDonalds and guess what? I would order a yogurt parfait and salad...my mom thought it was weird as all my siblings would get burgers, fries, or happy meals. It was then she knew my future would involve food.

I want you to know that I am a Dietitian because I love food and want to share my knowledge with you so that you can feel empowered around it. Food plays a huge part in our lives, from culture to lifestyle to work and even comfort. I want to help you reach your goals, while creating a safe space for you to feel heard, validated, and most of all not judged. I'm here to help you grow and reach your goals.

During our sessions, depending on your goals, we will talk about you and your history with food. We will then dive into your goals, what type of diets you have done in the past, your experience with those diets, and then we will discuss why/if those diets did not work. We will then talk about our plan and how you can get to your goal. I take into account lifestyle, genetics, past/current medical diagnosis (Diabetes, hypertension, high triglycerides, Cancer etc.), stress, sleep, and other factors that influence our overall health. I do not believe in using the BMI chart to determine if someone is healthy vs unhealthy. I want to assure you that I look at the big picture, not the scale or a BMI #. I believe in HAES and intuitive eating over chronic dieting.

A personal piece I'd like to share is that I too went through a chronic dieting cycle. It started out harmless, I wanted to eat better, be healthier, and lose weight. I decided to compete in a bikini competition and before I knew it, I was obsessed with tracking my food, weighing myself daily, using cardio as punishment, and working out 6-7 days/week. I was ashamed of struggling with orthorexia and bingeing. I struggled through that time alone and I want to make sure no one else has to navigate those waters alone. I want to support, uplift, and educate women on the importance of nutrition. I have healed my relationship with food and am forever grateful for my journey, as it has shaped me.

Although I specialize in intuitive eating, healing disordered eating patterns, and weight loss, I also love helping individuals manage their Diabetes, HTN, and High triglycerides/cholesterol.

I have been a Dietitian for 3 years now and I have truly found my passion. I started off in acute care which I feel really helped me become more confident in medical nutrition therapy. Whenever I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, boyfriend, friends, or cat. I'm a foodie who loves trying out new recipes and baking yummy pastries! I am an avid animal lover who promotes adoption and am working on becoming a foster mom for pets. I love exploring new places but, I would also consider myself a home body at times. I prefer Fall and Summer over the Winter and Spring. I enjoy going on walks, gardening, and practicing yoga.

I look forward to working with you!
