About me: I have a Master's Degree in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Washington in Seattle and I earned my Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential through the University of Washington Graduate Coordinated Program in Dietetics. I interned at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, home to the northwest’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and world-renowned medical research. I currently work in acute-care settings in San Diego, California.
I am from Washington State in a small town in the Cascade Mountains, where I learned to love cooking and moving my body outside (there wasn’t much else to do!) Today, I am an ultra-runner, avid home baker, and lover of YouTube cooking videos.
What you can expect during a visit: Initial consultations (~80 minutes) are about getting to know you, your background, eating patterns, health conditions, relationship with food, and your goals. You will be doing a lot of the talking! I take detailed notes during visits and we will co-create a plan that feels comfortable and sustainable. Follow-up sessions are shorter (~1 hour). We will check in about how you’re feeling, your progress, and keep moving toward your goals.
My philosophy: Today’s world feels unprecedented in its complexity and volatility, especially when it comes to nutrition and health, but I believe that food can be a source of joy–it is a skill that can be built and improved. In addition, healthcare in the United States is laser-focused on treating health outcomes for individuals and we invest significantly less in understanding the systems that influence our health. For example, do you live in a walkable neighborhood? How far is the nearest grocery store? Did you have access to culinary skills? Does your job offer you time for yourself to spend with family or take time for yourself? What is your and your community’s relationship with food? This information is essential to understanding and improving your nutrition and health outcomes, and I will work with you to creatively set goals that improve your quality of life.
What makes my work unique: I follow a weight neutral approach to nutrition, whereby your health is not determined by your body size. I am an avid reader and follow current research in nutrition and health, so I come prepared for each session with the most up-to-date information to support you. I’m incredibly fulfilled by my work and it energizes me to help clients find long-term success with our visits. I’ve worked with clients of all backgrounds, gender identities, and body sizes and I strive to create a safe and welcoming counseling environment for all people.
