My name is Melissa. I am passionate about working in partnership with clients to create a plan to reach their goals. I enjoy helping clients figure out the “why” behind their choices and improving their understanding of nutrition with a holistic and evidence-based approach. Behavior change is challenging, and I am committed to compassionate and collaborative counseling. I believe in creating sustainable changes that will promote lasting results.
My interest in nutrition started when I became a mother. I was excited to make positive choices and create healthy habits to help get my daughters’ lives started on the right foot. I spent years cooking and talking about food with my family to help nurture their love and understanding of nutrition. While this was satisfying, it led to a desire to further my knowledge and ability to help others associate how food can make positive changes in health and living.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Kansas State University, then completed a Dietetic Internship through Iowa State University. I started my career as a Registered Dietitian working with acute care patients in a regional hospital where I was able to learn about nutrition throughout the lifecycle, while working with the neonatal population all the way to the geriatric population. My journey then took me in a different direction, working in public health for the Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) program. I spent several years helping families learn healthy eating habits. I have spent the past several years working in private practice, with individuals to improve their health with nutrition and lifestyle changes.
