Melissa Hooper is an award-winning, expert registered dietitian/nutritionist in the greater Los Angeles area. She launched Bite-Size Nutrition to help individuals and the corporate sector implement sound, scientifically-based nutrition in fun, “bite-sizes” to improve quality of life. Melissa pioneered an innovative nutrition marketing program for Clear Channel Radio, L.A. featured on KOST 103.5fm and HOT 92.3fm. She has been featured on FOXLA and has been a contributor to online articles in Forbes, Huffington Post, MSN, Yahoo, Livestrong, US News & World Report, Eat This Not That!, POPSUGAR, Everyday Health, The List, Supermarket News, LA Times Health, VeryWellFit, HowStuffWorksHealth, StyleCrazed and many others. She has written branded consumer blogs for Vosko’s Greek Yogurt, press releases for the Chilean Citrus Fruit Association and has given presentations at the Glen Ivy Spa.
Melissa was the Registered Dietitian for Stater Bros. Markets’ Healthy Selections Program. In that role, she produced the quarterly Healthy Selections Newsletter, wrote branded nutrition messages for hundreds of food & beverage brands that reached 3.9million homes monthly in the mailer, wrote & recorded overhead nutrition messages that played monthly in all 167 stores (number of stores at that time) in Southern California, attended community events, created and hosted monthly health fairs, conducted consumer and industry presentations and media interviews.
With a Master’s Degree in Nutrition, she has worked as a full-time media spokesperson creating content for nutrition marketing campaigns, as well as conducting media interviews on TV stations in Southern California, Kansas City, Wichita and Tulsa covering a wide variety of nutrition and health topics as well as healthy cooking demonstrations, recipe modifications and recipe development. Melissa co-hosted and co-produced her own weekly segment on the Good Day Tulsa Show, called the Easy Living Segment. She’s also been featured in the LA Times and conducted interviews for The Orange County Register, as well as has been a speaker at the California Academy of Nutrition’s Annual Meeting.
Melissa is a published author in The Way to My Heart’s Food For Thought PAD Patient Handbook and is a contributing author for The Competitive Edge book, as well as an expert guest panelist at the Fresh From the Americas Produce (FFAP) annual meeting in Mexico. She completed her Master’s Thesis on Childhood Obesity and is Certified in Weight and Obesity Management for both Adults and Children.
Melissa was awarded the Rising Star Award from Oklahoma State University’s College of Human Sciences. She was also the recipient of the Emerging Leader Award from the Kansas City District Dietetic Association.
