Background

Hi! My name is Rebecca and I have over a decade of experience as a Registered Dietitian. I grew up on the east coast and earned a Masters degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida (Go Gators!).

After graduating, I relocated to the west coast and began my professional career as a telehealth dietitian working with Veterans. From the start, I learned to tailor my counseling sessions to support clients with varied backgrounds and meet them where they are. After that, I spent over 5 years working at a medical center as an inpatient and rehabilitation dietitian. I built a strong clinical background that still helps me critically evaluate clients' medical situation outside of the hospital environment.

I now work as an outpatient dietitian with pediatric and adult clients providing one-on-one medical nutrition therapy to address a variety of medical conditions. Part of my work involves helping children living with type 1 and 2 diabetes. Recently I became a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).

While i’ve seen just about every kind of patient in my career, I find I have the most success helping clients experiencing:

Diabetes and pre-diabetes

Kidney disease (not yet on dialysis)

Picky eating, failure to thrive and general pediatrics

Malnutrition

Tube feeding support

Pregnancy

Oncology

Eating disorders and disordered eating

Congestive heart failure and cardiovascular disease

Regardless of what conditions clients may be experiencing, my counseling takes into account not only guidelines and recommendations from research, but also the person and the whole picture. I want to help clients find what motivates them and what their core values are in order to set concrete goals. Medical nutrition therapy is not a meal plan to copy and paste, but a way to empower clients to take control of their nutrition.

Having a healthy relationship with nutrition has helped me accomplish many of my own personal goals. I did not grow up with a particularly active lifestyle but decided as an adult to take up running. Setting goals, working towards them and achieving them helped me complete 5 full marathons. I've since semi-retired my running career but still stay active with strength and conditioning classes. Motivation can wax and wane, but building discipline and putting in consistent work helped me achieve more than just my nutrition goals. This lesson is particularly important to me as I recently have become a new mom and am navigating all the challenges and milestones of motherhood!

Becoming a mother and interacting with our healthcare system I am reminded of how difficult it can be to access the resources you need to take charge of our own health care. I’ve seen first hand how hard it can be to get good medical nutrition therapy. One of my goals in my practice is to help address this and support clients’ needs to establish positive health outcomes.
