Background

Hello and thanks for checking out my profile! My name is Shahira Orcel. I am a HAES focused inpatient Clinical Dietitian currently working at UMass Memorial. My educational background includes a Master of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from Framingham State University and bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Clark University.

Before working at UMass, I was an Eating Disorder Dietitian for the Klarman Eating Disorder Center at Mclean Hospital in Belmont, Ma. Through my experiences there, I developed a strong interest and found great reward in caring for individuals struggling with eating disorders. Nutrition counseling in diabetes, kidney disease, GI disorders, and heart disease are additional areas where I can offer knowledge and provide support.

I strive to challenge myself to constantly learn new things both from clients and new research in the best practices. My other passion includes working to understand racial equity and its relationship to health equity. In my free time, I love to read and spend time outdoors. I look forward to working with you!
