I am a Registered Dietitian based in New York with experience in weight management for pediatric and adult populations, diabetes self-management, and cardiovascular disease. My approach is rooted in the desire to fit evidence-based strategies to individuals in their unique places and times. Having worked across the lifespan from 11 to 105 years in settings from middle schools to long-term care facilities, I have gained an appreciation for the myriad ways in which good health can present.
In management of chronic disease, I place strong emphasis on person-first philosophy; I try help clients see that they are the ones in control of their conditions and not the other way around. When working here and in weight management I help clients work on small, sustainable changes that lead to big results. The outcome may start scale-related, but I like to shed light on non-scale victories and get people back in touch with how they feel. For clients managing cardiovascular disease, I tailor nutrition therapy to their personal tastes and cultural backgrounds. We’re told too often foods are inherently “good,” or “bad.” Here and everywhere, moderation is the motto; the only “bad,” food is what has gone bad is no longer safe.
Working with clients is a partnership and is about building their ability to see what is ahead, build momentum turn up the volume on victories while turning down the volume on any negative experiences that came before. Pairing this with careful individualization of medical nutrition therapy, goals met can be goals achieved.
