Expectations
When we meet for nutrition counseling sessions, we will focus on you as an entire person. Eating goes beyond knowing “what to eat”, and often involves much more of your life. I want to know who you are, what excites you, how you like to spend your time and so much more. With this in mind, you will create goals for your health that we will work on in each session. My role is to ask you questions to help you uncover your challenges and strengths as well as to provide education when requested or permitted. You are in the driver seat, I am here to guide and support you to get to where you’re going.
Focus Area
I have many years of experience working with people of all ages, genders and cultures dealing with a variety of health concerns. During this time, I specialized in treating people with cancer (before, during and after), people living with gastrointestinal/stomach conditions, mindful eating, disordered eating/eating disorders and body image, as well as complex situations such as managing multiple conditions at one time.
Credentials
I graduated with honors in both a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and a master of science degree in community nutrition. During my education I was a teaching assistant at the university for the food preparation courses, volunteered at a local school in their community garden and worked with a physician in rural communities providing nutrition education and support.
I am board certified as a specialist in oncology (CSO) through the Commission of Dietetic Registration as well as trained in the Mindfulness Based-Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) program. I keep up to date with education on a variety of specialities including trauma informed nutrition and gastrointestinal disease. In addition, I am a certified yoga instructor with several years experience teaching teenagers with anxiety and depression.
Personal
I was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and recently moved to Arizona. I love being outdoors in the sunshine no matter where I am but having a mountain and some cacti to look at has been a great change of scenery! I also enjoy embroidery, reading, learning the piano and making waffles.
Drive
I am driven by being a fellow human who has dealt with my own health conditions as well as my families and knowing how stressful it can be. Having experienced the power of nutrition firsthand motivates me to share that with anyone who is ready to dive in!
